OUR STORY
Our passion project for many years, Nourishing Bites, was a family-owned premium food business that took pride in crafting handmade artisan treats from wholesome ingredients. Founded in 2013 as a market stall, the business grew to serve thousands of health-conscious customers and a network of over 40 cafes, food outlets, and health food stores across Australia.
Along with its gourmet treats, Nourishing Bites (nicknamed ‘Bites’ by its network of dedicated customers) also offered gift boxes for both consumers and corporate clients, catering platters, custom cakes, and Heavenly Hazel, its signature chocolate hazelnut spread made from 65% roasted hazelnuts. The company ran gluten-free baking workshops and a wholefoods cafe called The Nook for more than three years.
Nourishing Bites was proudly Indigenous-owned and had a strong commitment to offering high-quality treats free from gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and any added nasties. ‘Bites’ was more than just a business – it was a way of life that started after Shelley changed her diet and lifestyle to conceive her son Pacey-James and resolve her health issues, prompting a quest to create healthier versions of her favourite childhood treats.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry, we had to make the difficult decision to close our commercial kitchen and put the development of Heavenly Hazel on hold. But a decade of sharing our love for wholesome food and developing strong local relationships has strengthened our desire to find new ways to support our community.
Our experience with Nourishing Bites showed us the incredible resilience of the Townsville community, and deepened our connection to this special city. We are proud of the relationships that were fostered over the years with our business partners and customers, and look forward to continuing to work with local businesses to create local success stories.

- Received highly commended award in 2022 Queensland Reconciliation Awards (health & wellbeing category) for contribution to sustainable Indigenous economic development and employment
- Secured international food safety certification (HACCAP) for the operations of their commercial production facility.
- Secured agreement to supply The Ville Townsville, North Queensland’s premiere entertainment destination with 200 chocolate truffle boxes per month for its VIP guests
- Secured $100k Deadly Deals grant from Advance Queensland to commercialise and develop national and international distribution networks for Heavenly Hazel chocolate hazelnut spread.
